The Buckeyes will likely play upwards of six safeties this season and all six have starting experience. Returning starter Ronnie Hickman takes over at free safety to lead the secondary. Josh Proctor and his four career starts will be at strong safety and will likely be called upon to throw his 6-foot-2 and 200-pound frame around when necessary. Defensive coordinator Jim Knowles employs a 4-2-5 defense, which means nickel Tanner McCalister will be the likely starter there. The backups may not actually be backups depending on what Knowles wants to do.
