Buckeyes Flip Defensive Tackle From Virginia Tech

The Buckeyes added to their class of 2024 on Friday morning with the flip of former Virginia Tech defensive tackle Eric Mensah. The 6-foot-3, 290-pounder from Stafford (Va.) made his intentions known publicly on social media.

“I would lastly like to announce my commitment to play football at The Ohio State University!” Mensah said on X, formerly known as Twitter.com.

Mensah was on campus last week for Ohio State’s win over Youngstown State. It was not a widely reported visit, but it was a business trip as the Buckeyes looked to add to their defensive line class.

This is big news for the Buckeyes as there is a serious need at defensive tackle. Ohio State already has Justin Scott in the fold but with the potential of losing players like Mike Hall, Tyleik Williams and/or Ty Hamilton after this season, the need to add to the number is real, even with the transfer of Tywone Malone into the program prior to the start of the 2023 season.

The Mountain View high school product is a bit of an unknown when you look at his ranking, Mensah is a three-star according to the major services, but there seems to be a great divide on where he ranks in-state as a prospect, coming in anywhere between 8^th (ESPN) and 24^th (Rivals) in state rankings.

That didn’t stop schools like Virginia, Virginia Tech, West Virginia and Boston College all from offering, among others.

Ohio State’s current recruiting class sits at 22 players and is ranked No. 2 nationally according to most of the services. Expect the Buckeyes to continue to put an emphasis on defensive line recruiting to finish out the cycle, including remaining active on players like Marquise Lightfoot and Dylan Stewart.
