COLUMBUS — Ohio State junior running back TreVeyon Henderson will not play in Saturday’s matchup against 5-0 Maryland. Henderson is listed as “Out” on the Buckeyes’ official availability report with an undisclosed injury.
Henderson dealt with injuries all throughout the 2022 season but had been healthy up to this point for the Buckeyes in 2023. He is by far the leading rusher for Ohio State, having posted 295 yards rushing on 44 carries (6.7 ypc). In his last outing, he rushed for 104 yards at Notre Dame.
Without Henderson, the Buckeyes will turn to senior Chip Trayanum and fourth-year junior Miyan Williams to carry the load. Trayanum has rushed for 146 yards on the season, while Williams has rushed for exactly half that number.
Neither Williams nor Trayanum played in last year’s game against Maryland. Henderson was also limited due to injury against the Terps last year, but did rush for 19 yards on 11 carries. With injuries taking their toll, the Buckeyes turned to freshman Dallan Hayden in last year’s game, and he responded with 146 yards rushing on 27 carries. All but one of those carries came in the second half of OSU’s 43-30 win.
Hayden is still looking for his first carry here in 2023.
Henderson is the only starter listed as out. No Buckeyes are listed as questionable.
The other new name on the report is sophomore cornerback Jyaire Brown. Brown has been Ohio State’s No. 4 cornerback this season. Without him, that will likely push true freshman Jermaine Mathews, Jr. or junior transfer Lorenzo Styles, Jr. into that fourth-man role.
Freshman defensive end Arvell Reese is still out following an apparent concussion earlier in the season.
