College Gameday was comin’ to your cit-ay, just as its theme song promised.
ESPN’s signature pregame show broadcast live from the lawn just south of St. John Arena to preview the No. 2 Buckeyes’ season-opening matchup with No. 5 Notre Dame.
During the broadcast, members of Ohio State’s 2002 national championship team were recognized, including head coach Jim Tressel, running back Maurice Clarett, safety Will Allen, and safety Mike Doss.
The show ended with its signature segment, Lee Corso picking the winner of the game by putting a mascot head on. That tradition started in Columbus back in 1996 when Corso picked Ohio State to beat Penn State by putting on the head of the Brutus Buckeye costume. The Buckeyes won that game, 38-7 and a tradition was born.
Saturday, Corso once again picked the Buckeyes, joining Desmond Howard and guest picker Jack Harlow in choosing Ohio State to knock off the Irish.
