Ohio State offers four-star safety

Even with most of the class wrapped up, Ohio State continues to pursue new options at a variety of positions. On Monday evening, the Buckeyes extended a new offer to four-star safety Koi Perich.

The 6-foot-1, 195-pound prospect from Esko (MN) Lincoln has been committed to Minnesota since April but has been a hot commodity over the past month, scooping up offers from Florida State, USC, and now the Buckeyes.

“Obviously I was excited you know with Ohio State being a top school in the country, it’s always cool,” Perich told BuckeyeHuddle.com. “I’ve been talking with them for a couple weeks now.”

Perich’s main point of contact with the Buckeyes has been safeties coach Perry Eliano but head coach Ryan Day has also been involved as Ohio State tries to work quickly to build a relationship with the talented safety prospect.

“Coach Eliano is a beast, man he’s a cool dude,” Perich said. “And coach Day is a cool dude, too.”

Plucking Perich away from the in-state Gophers may not be an easy task, but the Buckeyes could be getting an official visit in the coming weeks, which doesn’t provide a ton of time with the Early Signing Period looming.

“I’m going to head out there after my season is over,” he explained. “I’m not enrolling early, but I’m probably (signing) in December.”

With that said, the Buckeyes do have Perich’s attention and he likes what he has seen from the defense this season.

“Their defense flies around and it’s just fun to watch them work with how fast and physical they play,” he said.

Perich is the top-ranked prospect in the state of Minnesota in the 2024 recruiting class and also excels on the basketball floor and on the track.
