Bay City (TX) defensive lineman Carlon Jones has become a priority recruiting target for Ohio State over the past several weeks. After a couple of official visit dates fell through, the Buckeyes were able to get the four-star prospect on campus this weekend with the trip wrapping up this morning.
Jones got a crash course in all things Ohio State over the weekend but the closeness of the players around the program is what jumped out to him during his time in Columbus.
“The brotherhood is what stood out to me,” Jones told BuckeyeHuddle.com on Sunday. “I felt very welcomed.”
Ohio State defensive line coach Larry Johnson has led the push for Jones on Ohio State’s end. Johnson and the rest of the Buckeyes’ staff reiterated to him that they think he can be a special player in Columbus.
“They really like my game film,” Jones said. “But they can teach me a lot to help me become elite.”
Ohio State was a big part of Jones’ decommitment from Nebraska and remains a major contender to ultimately land his signature in less than two weeks. But the Buckeyes aren’t the only contender. Jones has picked up some big offers this fall in the midst of an extremely productive senior season.
USC is one of the big offers that has caught Jones’ attention the most and Jones told Buckeye Huddle that his official visit to Los Angeles will go forward as scheduled next weekend.
A decision is expected shortly after that visit to USC. The Early Signing Period opens up on December 20th.
At this point, it is shaping up to be a two-horse race.
“It’s basically those two (Ohio State and USC),” Jones stated.
