Welcome to the BuckeyeHuddle.com Ohio State Recruiting Big Boards. These lists are intended to serve as a guide for the top Ohio State recruiting targets in a given class and at a given position. These are fluid lists that could change multiple times throughout a recruiting cycle. These lists are compiled using three key components; 1. Ohio State’s interest in the player. 2. The Player’s Interest in Ohio State and 3. The Player’s Ability/Ranking.
Ohio State tight ends coach Keenan Bailey had a strong first year on the recruiting trail, landing a pair of highly touted prospects in the 2024 class in Damarion Witten and Max LeBlanc and then hitting the portal for Ohio U. transfer Will Kacmarek.
It will be another important cycle for the Buckeyes who will once again likely need to go to the prep ranks to find two more prospects and the priority targets are starting to emerge.
Rank | Name | Hometown | High School | Star Ranking |
---|---|---|---|---|
1 | Nate Roberts | Washington, OK | Washington | ⭐⭐⭐⭐ |
2 | Brock Schott | Leo, IN | Leo | ⭐⭐⭐⭐ |
3 | Luka Gilbert | West Chester, OH | Lakota West | ⭐⭐⭐⭐ |
4 | Landon Pace | St. Louis, MO | University | ⭐⭐⭐ |
5 | Bear Tenney | Lehi, UT | Lehi | ⭐⭐⭐ |
1. Nate Roberts – Washington (OK)
Bailey has been tireless in recruiting Roberts over the past year and has made real strides. The Buckeyes are arguably the team to beat right now coming out of another visit in January but programs like Oklahoma, where his brother just transferred in from Baylor, and Oregon are worth watching here as well.
2. Brock Schott – Leo (IN)
Schott was just offered during his Junior Day visit in January but the Buckeyes are pushing here. Schott is starting to see his recruitment expand beyond just the Big Ten region with programs like Miami (FL) and Texas A&M entering the mix.
3. Luka Gilbert – West Chester (OH) Lakota West
Gilbert was offered very early in the process by Ohio State and remains a target of interest but things seem to have shifted toward Roberts and Schott in recent months and it will be interesting to see how this all plays out with two spots and three talented players. Kentucky, Penn State, and others are also in the mix for the four-star prospect.
4. Landon Pace – St. Louis (MO) University
The Buckeye Legacy was offered very early on by now Tulsa head coach Kevin Wilson. Now with the room being run by Bailey, there are certainly questions about whether or not Pace fits the profile from a height and speed perspective of what the plans are moving forward in the Ohio State tight ends room. It may be difficult for Pace to find his way into the class at this point.
5. Bear Tenney – Lehi (UT)
Tenney holds an offer from Ohio State, and many other programs around the nation, but there isn’t much buzz here between he and the Buckeyes and doesn’t seem like a particularly realistic option at this point.
Early Outlook
It’s certainly looking like a two tight end class again for the Buckeyes and the top three are the main names to know right now. It’s possible the Spring Evaluation Period unearths a new priority target or two but right now there is a lot of time and effort being put into Roberts and Schott and you still have Gilbert just 90 minutes down I-71.
The preference seems to be to keep the focus on those players right now unless the Buckeyes miss on a couple of them or are really blown away by an in-person evaluation in the spring or summer.
