In some of the least surprising news of the NFL Honors Ceremony on Thursday night, former Ohio State quarterback C.J. Stroud took home the Offensive Rookie of the Year Award.
The Houston Texans star threw for 4,108 yards to go along with 20 touchdowns and five interceptions and 100.8 passer rating. He also led the Texans from the worst record in the league in 2022 to a playoff berth which included a win over the Cleveland Browns in the first round.
Stroud broke several rookie records this past season, putting together arguably the best rookie season for a quarterback in the modern era. He set the single-game rookie passing record with 470 yards. Stroud also set the NFL rookie record for most pass attempts (192) before throwing his first career interception.
Stroud also became the youngest starting quarterback in NFL history to win a playoff game and tied the rookie record for touchdown passes in a playoff game (3), taking only one half to do it.
Stroud gives Ohio State back-to-back Offensive Rookie of the Year winners after former Buckeye receiver Garrett Wilson took home the award last season.
