Ohio State RB Coach Tony Alford Leaving For Michigan

Ohio State running backs coach Tony Alford is leaving for Michigan and has reportedly accepted the same position with the Wolverines under new head coach Sherrone Moore.

Ohio State has confirmed to Buckeye Huddle that Alford is no longer with the program.

Alford came to Ohio State in 2015 from Notre Dame, joining Urban Meyer’s staff in February of that year. He was headed into his 10th year with the Buckeyes.

In his time at Ohio State, Alford coached four running backs who have gone on to be drafted in the NFL, but JK Dobbins is the only one of those players that he recruited and signed out of high school.

This is obviously an odd time to be dealing with a coaching change as the Buckeyes are already two practices into spring camp.

Ohio State head coach Ryan Day opted to bring Alford back following last season, though sources indicated that Alford’s return was not always a sure thing. Now Day will have to find a replacement, and do so quickly as spring practice resumes on Tuesday of next week, and recruiting never stops.

Ryan Day is scheduled to meet with reporters following that first practice. There will obviously be much more to talk about than anticipated. Buckeye Huddle will continue to monitor the situation.
