Ohio State hosted over 75 recruits for last weekend’s win over Notre Dame, with prospects descending upon Columbus from all over the country.
One of the players who came the furthest distance was 2024 linebacker Kyngstonn Villamu-Asa from St. John Bosco in Bellflower, California.
This wasn’t the first trip to Columbus for the 6-foot-3, 225-pounder, but it was his first time taking in the game day experience, and it left quite the impression on the potential five-star prospect.
“It was unreal,” Villamu-Asa told Buckeye Huddle after his visit.
In addition to taking in the big win, KVA also got to spend time with the Ohio State coaching staff while on campus.
“I got to talk to Coach Koy (McFarland), Coach (Jim) Knowles, and Coach (Matt) Guerrieri,” he shared. “We just caught up on everything since the last time I had been there and talked about the season so far.”
Villamu-Asa also got to see the new defense up close and personal, and liked what he saw.
“I liked the new defense,” he responded when asked. “They definitely have a lot of speed. I like how Coach Knowles uses his linebackers in his defense to be versatile in run support and in coverage.”
So, after this trip, where does Ohio State stand in his recruitment?
“I like where I’m at with them as far as my recruitment goes,” he said. “I think it could be a good potential fit.”
KVA also mentioned Stanford, Oregon, and USC as other programs he has in high consideration right now.
A return visit to Columbus will likely come sometime in the off-season, which will allow the Buckeyes to continue to cement their ground as a top school in this recruitment. There is currently no decision timeline set for Villamu-Asa, who is ranked as a 4-star, the No. 98 overall player, No. 6 linebacker, and No. 11 in California by the 2024 Composite.
