Ohio State hosted a couple of big name running back targets on Saturday for unofficial visits, including Cleveland (Ohio) Villa-Angela St. Joseph star Bo Jackson.
The Top 100 prospect was one of several priority targets on campus to catch Saturday’s Student Appreciation Practice.
“It was great,” said Jackson of the visit. “I had my whole family with me and they treated us really well. It was a special day for me and my family.”
With so many students on hand, it was a different vibe and energy than a typical practice and that really stood out to Jackson. Jackson was also able to see several Buckeye running backs impact the scrimmage portion of practice as the Buckeyes will boast one of their deepest groups in recent memory.
“Practice atmosphere was amazing, like nothing I’ve seen before practice wise,” Jackson stated. “I got to spend a lot of time with coach (Chip) Kelly and coach Day. I saw the new offense up close in the classroom and on the field and loved every bit.”
The elephant in the room is of course the fact that the Buckeyes do not currently have a running backs coach after Tony Alford’s abrupt departure to Michigan. That looks like it will change in the very near future.
After meeting with the coaching staff, Jackson says he is comfortable that the Buckeyes will make the appropriate hire and appreciated the staff being upfront about the situation with him.
“I got a lot of info on the new running back coach situation from coach Day,” Jackson said.
A big boost to Ohio State’s efforts with Jackson is his long-standing relationship with Day who has been very involved his recruitment over the past couple of years.
“I’ve always had a good relationship with coach Day since my freshman year,” Jackson started. “I was sad to see coach Alford leave because I also have a great relationship with him. But I trust coach Day and I feel great about the situation.”
Jackson is currently working on mapping out some official visits.
“I will only be able to do a few because of my schedule for my high school team has some important team stuff in June,” he said. I’m working on which schools and dates for OV’s.”
