CONROE, Texas — The month of June is going to be a big one for Ohio State on the recruiting trail with a few massive weekends hosting official visitors. Conroe (Texas) defensive back Dorian Brew will be among the big visitors coming through and we caught up with the Ohio native as our Southern Swing tour hits Texas.
Despite the move to Texas last fall, Brew has been getting up to Ohio pretty regularly and has made a pair of visits to Columbus during that span, the latest of which came at the end of March for the Student Appreciation Day.
“That visit was nice,” Brew said. “That was my first time seeing Jeremiah Smith in action and he had a lot of crazy catches. Seeing him and seeing Aaron Scott and some of the guys from Ohio playing at Ohio State was good. One of the students made a poster that was trying to get me to come to Ohio State, so it was fun.”
Even with Brew’s move to Texas, Ohio State has stayed on this one and Brew continues to maintain good relationships within the Buckeye coaching staff.
“I have a good relationship with coach Walton, I’ve been talking to him for a while now,” Brew said. “Then with Coach (Guerrieri), he just got there in like January but since the day he got there, we’ve been talking.”
The Buckeyes see Brew as a Swiss Army Knife type of player who can fit anywhere in the secondary.
“They said that I have position flexibility,” Brew explained. “So I could maybe go inside and play some nickel. I can always go back outside and play corner or if I want to go back and play safety. They feel like they can put me around the field and not just in one spot.”
Brew’s recruitment is about to hit the home stretch with five official visits on deck.
“Ohio State, Texas, Oregon, USC, and LSU (are getting official visits),” he stated.
Ohio State is expected to receive Brew’s last official visit the weekend of June 21st, and then it will be decision mode for the four-star prospect and his family.
“I think the last week of June or the first week of July,” Brew said when asked when he planned to make a decision.
