It was a little over one year ago that 2026 Archbishop Hoban (Akron, Ohio) cornerback Elbert Hill earned an offer at the first of Ohio State’s one-day camps.
On Thursday, Hill was back on the OSU campus taking part in another one-day camp and getting to spend time with Buckeye secondary coaches Tim Walton and Matt Guerrieri.
Just as he did a year ago, Hill stood out.
“Today went great,” Hill said. “I got up there with some guys — guys from all over the country. Just learning some new things and picking up new tools from Coach Walton and Coach G. Just out there having fun today.”
Hill is ranked the No. 1 cornerback in the nation by both On3 and ESPN. He is a top priority for Walton and Guerrieri.
“My relationship with them is great,” he said. “Every time I see them, it’s something new and it just goes higher and higher every time I talk to those guys.”
Elbert Hill is an Ohio kid, which is one reason he said last year that it was a “wonderful feeling” to earn a Buckeye offer. But the draw is more than just location and familiarity.
“The culture,” he said. “The people around Ohio State and Columbus, it’s just great out here. It’s a great college community. So it’s just wonderful.”
It has already been a very busy summer for Elbert Hill and it’s only going to get busier. The competitions, workouts, and strain will continue. It sounds like a lot — and it is, but Hill can handle it.
“I wouldn’t really say it’s tough, it’s just time management,” he said. “So I just manage things very well. And I have a great father who helps me manage things.”
Don’t feel too bad for Hill’s endless summer. He does find time to have fun, mentioning that he and teammate Eli Lee go catfishing from time to time. Lee is a 2025 linebacker who is currently committed to Ohio State.
Hill wants to start narrowing his choices down before his junior season begins. For him, that process will come down to which schools are recruiting him the hardest.
When asked who is doing that now, he said Ohio State, Oregon, Penn State, Texas A&M, and Miami.
Hill has upcoming visits scheduled for Oregon, Alabama, and Tennessee.
