The Buckeyes continue to stay on a heater when it comes to defensive line recruiting with the addition of Newberry (Fla.) lineman Jarquez Carter. The 6-foot-2, 270-pounder picked the Buckeyes over Miami, UCF and Penn State on Thursday afternoon.
Carter is only listed as a three-star, but his offer list would indicate a player ranked higher with close to 40 offers including the likes of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Michigan and Texas to name just a few schools who had offered.
For those not familiar with Newberry, it is a city west of Gainesville (Fla.). Carter was a multi-sport star at Newberry high school, playing basketball as well.
When it comes to football, last season he finished the year with 67 tackles, 37 tackles for loss, 15 quarterback hurries and nine sacks according to MaxPreps.
Carter visited Ohio State officially in mid-June as he was working closer to a decision, he visited his four finalists along with hometown Florida.
Larry Johnson saw defensive line recruiting come up short the past two seasons but that won’t be the case this year.
Carter looks to figure to be part of the interior defensive line and will join Maxwell Roy inside. A decision to move Trajen Odom inside could be coming as well.
The Buckeyes are working hard to flip Auburn commit Malik Autry as well, a player who would be one of those rare one-technique types.
