SPRINGFIELD, OHIO — One of the top camp performances of the June circuit at Ohio State was Springfield (Ohio) cornerback Aaron Scott. Despite competing with one of his hands in a cast, the 6-foot-1, 175-pound class of 2024 prospect dominated his one-day camp appearance in Columbus and earned an offer from the Buckeyes. Since that point, Ohio State has made Scott an early in-state priority.
“Ryan Day, I’ve been talking to him a lot,” Scott told BuckeyeHuddle.com on Friday night. “Him and coach Walton, those are the main two (coaches from Ohio State).”
Day’s involvement is a telling sign of Ohio State’s interest in the four-star prospect and Scott is also seeing a lot that he likes about cornerbacks coach Tim Walton.
“It’s a great relationship,” Scott said of Walton. “He’s real energetic and he’ll get on you and let you know what you need to do and that’s like what my DB coach right now (at Springfield).”
Scott was one of many talented prospects on hand for the win over Notre Dame last weekend. The buzz around that game made a lasting impression on the Ohio star.
“The atmosphere was crazy,” Scott said. “On third downs I couldn’t even hear. I had a great experience with my teammate Duncan Bradley and my father. I had a great time and I’m looking forward to getting there again.”
It’s still early in the season, but there has been notable improvement in the Ohio State defense from a year ago and Scott has noticed a different type of mindset around the program.
“I feel like they’ve got more of a chip on their shoulder because of what happened last year,” he explained. “They’re trying to win it all and I think that’s what they’re going to do.”
Scott came up big for Springfield on Friday night, recording a key first quarter interception in a 21-7 rivalry win over Huber Heights Wayne.
