Devin Brown Headed To The Transfer Portal After The Season

COLUMBUS — Ohio State backup quarterback Devin Brown will enter the transfer portal following this college football season.

The redshirt sophomore announced his intentions via social media.

Brown opened spring camp in a quarterback competition with Kansas State transfer Will Howard. The competition continued through spring and into fall camp. Howard was eventually named the starter in fall practice and Smith was named the Buckeyes’ backup.

Brown has played in eight games so far this season, completing 10-of-19 passes for 108 yards and a touchdown. Brown started last year’s Cotton Bowl for the Buckeyes after starting quarterback Kyle McCord entered the portal following the regular season. Brown was injured in the bowl game and missed the final three quarters.

In his Ohio State career, Brown threw for 325 yards with three touchdowns and one interception. As he noted in his announcement, he will stay with the Buckeyes until their season is over.

Devin Brown will enter the transfer portal with two seasons of eligibility remaining. He came to Ohio State from Corner Canyon High School in Draper, Utah where he was a Top 5 quarterback in the 2022 recruiting class per all major recruiting services. He was the No. 1 overall player per On3.

The Buckeyes will also be losing starter Will Howard after the season. They have signed one quarterback in the 2025 recruiting class — five-star Ohio prospect Tavien St. Clair.

If nobody else transfers, the Buckeyes will open the 2025 season with St. Clair, redshirt sophomore Lincoln Kienholz, and redshirt freshmen Julian Sayin and Air Noland.
