Purdue Safety Dillon Thieneman Planning Ohio State Visit

Purdue safety Dillon Thieneman will be visiting Ohio State in the next week per Steve Wiltfong of On3.com.

Thieneman has led the Boilermakers in tackles in each of his first two years. As a true freshman in 2023, Thieneman posted 106 tackles as a starting free safety. He was named the Big Ten’s Freshman of the Year and a Freshman All-American.

This past season as a sophomore, he posted another 104 tackles. He was an Honorable Mention All-Big Ten selection this season. He also produced 4.5 tackles for loss, one sack, and seven passes broken up.

As a freshman, Dillon Thieneman finished second in the Big Ten with six interceptions.

Thieneman announced his intentions to enter the transfer portal last week. The portal officially opened on Monday. He also has a visit to Oregon planned as well. As of now, those are the only two visits scheduled, but more could be in the works.

The Buckeyes are losing at least three starters from this year’s secondary, including starting strong safety Lathan Ransom. A pairing of Thieneman and Caleb Downs for the Buckeyes could give them the best tandem in college football next year.

Thieneman is from Westfield, Indiana and is a legacy Boilermaker.

The Buckeyes have some young safeties who have seen the field this year, but a productive veteran like Dillon Thieneman is not something Ohio State would likely pass up should he want to come aboard.
