Calvin Simpson-Hunt Hits The Portal

The Buckeyes have reached the conclusion of the 2024 season as national champions and now there are members of the roster with a small window to enter the transfer portal. Cornerback Calvin Simpson-Hunt has taken advantage of that window to declare his intentions to transfer out of Ohio State according to 247Sports.com.

Simpson-Hunt was a member of the class of 2023 and was a four-star coming out of Waxahachie (Texas).

The talented Texan will have three years to play three years after redshirting as a true freshman in 2023 and then seeing action in nine games this current season, last seeing game action against the Indiana Hoosiers.

Ohio State’s depth chart was crowded at corner and with Denzel Burke, Jordan Hancock and Davison Igbinosun seeing almost all of the action over the 16-game season, young players were held to backup roles and Simpson-Hunt didn’t get to see much action over the championship season.

The Buckeyes could be losing all three corners after this season with Burke and Hancock at the end of the line and while IGB has a decision to make, most people feel that he will be off to the NFL after two seasons with the Buckeyes.

Ohio State brought in a talented class of corners in both the 2024 and 2025 classes and spring should see fierce battles as there will be multiple open positions at corner.

Today also saw announcements from Mitchell Melton and Devin Brown and landing locations for each player after sticking with the team, as did Simpson-Hunt. Melton will transfer to Virginia and Brown will head west to play at Cal.

There will likely be more movement as Ohio State’s roster will undergo one of its biggest roster movements in recent memory with a senior-laden team along with a lot of portal activity.
