Four Ohio State assistant coaches will make over $1 million this season as compensation for OSU’s 10 assistant coaches reaches $11.75 million for 2025.
The University has released contract details for the Ohio State football program, which includes head coach Ryan Day, the 10 assistant coaches, strength coach Mickey Marotti, general manager Mark Pantoni, and chief of staff Quinn Tempel.
New defensive coordinator Matt Patricia has signed a three-year deal that will pay him $2.5 million annually. Brian Hartline, who was promoted to offensive coordinator this year, will earn $2 million annually over the next three years. His previous contract paid him $1.6 million annually.
Co-defensive coordinator Tim Walton has also signed a three-year contract. His contract will pay him $1.8 million annually, which is up from $1.4 million last year. Defensive line coach Larry Johnson is still under his previous contract, which pays him $1.4 million and ends after the 2025 season.
New offensive line coach and run game coordinator Tyler Bowen has signed a three-year deal that will begin at $900,000 this year and increase $100,000 each year. Safeties coach and passing game coordinator Matt Guerrieri has the same deal and salary as Bowen, which is a pay increase of more than twice what Guerrieri made last season.
Running backs coach Carlos Locklyn and tight ends coach Keenan Bailey are both on two-year deals that go through the 2026 season at a rate of $650,000 per year. Linebackers coach James Laurinaitis is on a two-year deal that pays him $500,000 per year through 2026. New quarterbacks coach Billy Fessler has signed a two-year deal as well at a rate of $475,000 annually.
Strength coach Mickey Marotti is on a new three-year deal at $1 million per year. General manager Mark Pantoni has also signed a three-year deal that will pay him $900,000 this year, $925,000 in 2026, and $975,000 in 2027. Chief of staff Quinn Tempel’s three-year deal will pay him $450,000 annually.
Day’s contract extension through 2031 that pays him $12.5 million annually was previously announced in February.
Bonuses are also available should Ohio State make it to the Big Ten Championship Game (8% of salary), win the Big Ten Championship Game (additional 4% of salary), make the College Football Playoff (10%), make the quarterfinals (20%), make it to the semifinals (25%), make the national title game (30%), and winning a national championship (35%).
