FAIRBURN, Ga. — Ohio State continues to be right in the thick of the race for four-star running back Carsyn Baker. The 6-foot-2, 200-pound prospect out of Langston Hughes High School has been a top target for Buckeye running backs coach Carlos Locklyn since he was offered at camp last summer.
Baker made a spring unofficial visit to Ohio State to learn more about the program and get some insight into how the Buckeyes run their practice.
“There was a good physicality to their spring practice as far as having best-on-best,” Baker recalled. “I really enjoyed seeing the running backs being used in their offense. I see a bright future there and a place where I could be used in that offense. I also liked seeing the culture, just the way everything was, how coach Locklyn coaches his backs, and I got a chance to talk to coach Day about how I can impact the game.”
Locklyn has been consistent in his pursuit of Baker over the past year, making the four-star prospect feel like a priority.
“Since Day One when coach Locklyn got the job, he told me that he needed me on campus,” Baker explained. “So I went up for the camp and everything and received the offer. Me and him have been building a relationship ever since.”
Having two running backs go in the second round of the draft in April hasn’t hurt Locklyn’s recruiting pitch. Baker likes what he saw from the Buckeye backs this past season.
“I saw the long screen pass that Henderson had and the three-touchdown performance by Quinshon in the National Championship Game,” Baker said. “It was just a very electric duo that they had. I could see myself being a part of that one day and being coached by coach Lock.”
Baker is scheduled to make an official visit to Ohio State the weekend of June 13th. It will likely be the last time the Buckeyes are able to get him on campus before he makes a decision, which he says he hopes to make before his senior season.
“Just the one-on-one session and things that I can learn from coach Lock,” he explained, when asked about his expectations for the upcoming official visit. “Asking the players about what it’s like to be at Ohio State every day. What I’m going to be doing when I get there? How’s class? How’s the football? How’s the coaching staff? I just want to get deeper intel on how every day life is at Ohio State.”
