50 For 50: Is Arvell Reese Ready For One Of The West’s Best?

Welcome to our daily feature that I am calling “50 for 50” where I attempt to get us to Big Ten Media Days — which are 3 days away — with a daily sampling of what we can look forward to this upcoming college football season. Today’s edition features Ohio State linebacker Arvell Reese, a postseason prediction for the Buckeyes, and more.

As always, we will do this via the following categories: the 50 biggest individual matchups for the Buckeyes this season, the 50 most important college football games this season, 50 Buckeye things to look forward to this season, 50 national predictions, 50 Big Ten predictions, and 50 predictions involving the Buckeyes.

Biggest Buckeye Matchups

OHIO STATE LB ARVELL REESE VS. WASHINGTON RB JONAH COLEMAN

Jonah Coleman is the second-leading returning rusher in the Big Ten based on yards per game (81.0) last year. He had five 100-yard rushing games in 2025, and his 5.5 yards per carry is one of the best returning numbers in the B1G as well. Buckeye middle linebacker Arvell Reese is going to have his hands full when Ohio State makes their first trip to Seattle since 2007. Only three players had more 30-yard runs than Coleman last year, so if Reese misses a tackle or doesn’t shed a block, what should have been stopped at the line of scrimmage could go much further.

Most Important Games

ALABAMA CRIMSON TIDE AT GEORGIA BULLDOGS, OCT. 11

Georgia hasn’t beaten Alabama at home since 2003. Of course, they’ve only played in the regular season five times in the last 20 years, so there haven’t been many opportunities. Alabama won 41-34 last year in Tuscaloosa, but it wasn’t enough to get the Crimson Tide into the playoffs. It also wasn’t enough to knock the Bulldogs out of the playoffs. The same will be the case this year, but that doesn’t diminish how much fun this game should be.

Things To Look Forward To

OHIO STATE GETTING BACK TO INDIANAPOLIS.

The Buckeyes haven’t played in the Big Ten Championship since 2020. Ohio State fans haven’t gotten to fill Lucas Oil Stadium since 2019. This has been a long time coming, but the Buckeyes are as well positioned as they’ve ever been to make it to the Big Ten Championship Game. There are plenty of new starters on defense, but they’re upperclassmen who are hungry to produce. Offensively, few teams have as much firepower as the Buckeyes. It’s just a matter of being able to utilize it to its fullest.

National College Football Predictions

LANORRIS SELLERS WILL BE A TOP 5 HEISMAN FINISHER.

You never really know how many finalists are going to be invited to the Heisman ceremony, but there’s a good bet that South Carolina quarterback will have enough productions and highlights to make the top four for most Southern voters. He has the potential to be a 1,000-yard rusher and 3,000-yard passer. If the Gamecocks can upset LSU and Alabama along the way, he’s got a shot at winning this thing.

Big Ten Football Predictions

MATT RHULE WILL BE NAMED BIG TEN COACH OF THE YEAR.

If you want to be the Big Ten Coach of the Year, then you generally have to do the most with the least. Exceed your meager expectations and you too could be Big Ten Coach of the Year. This is basically college football’s “Holy crap, I did not expect you to be so capable” award. So it’s a nice backhanded compliment from people who didn’t think you could do it.

Ohio State Football Predictions

OHIO STATE WILL WIN THE BIG TEN.

The Buckeyes are going to win their first Big Ten Championship Game since the 2020 season. They may have to give Penn State a pair of losses to make it happen, however. If that happens, the story will be about Ohio State, but the mood in Happy Valley will be concentrated gloom. This has been the Buckeyes’ longest Big Ten title drought since Ohio State went six years from 1987-1992 without at least a share of the B1G crown.
