COLUMBUS — Ohio State leading rusher Miyan Williams is expected back today for Michigan, but second-leading rusher TreVeyon Henderson has been ruled out by OSU.
Henderson and Williams have played together in just three Big Ten games this season, and that number will not grow today based on the availability report that has just been released by Ohio State.
Williams missed last week’s game at Maryland after suffering a leg injury against the Terps. He had rushed for 147 yards on 15 carries before leaving that game. Williams has rushed for 783 yards this season, averaging a Big Ten-best 6.7 yards per carry. His 13 touchdowns are good for third in the conference as well.
Henderson missed a pair of games before playing last week, but he was ineffective against the Terps, rushing for just 19 yards on 11 carries. Freshman Dallan Hayden replaced Henderson in that game, rushing for 146 yards on 27 carries. He ran the ball 26 times in the second half of what was a toss-up game.
Hayden became the first true freshman Buckeye to rush for 100 yards in consecutive games since JK Dobbins did it in 2017 against Michigan and then Wisconsin in the Big Ten Championship Game.
Junior receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba is also out this week. He has played in just three games this season, leaving each of those with the same hamstring injury he has been dealing with since the season-opener against Notre Dame.
The lone game-time decision listed on OSU’s availability report is fifth-year senior right guard Matt Jones. Jones has dealt with a foot issue for much of the season and then took a nasty spill last week at Maryland when he got bent backwards and had to leave the game.
If Jones can’t go, the Buckeyes will turn to fourth-year junior Enokk Vimahi or third-year sophomore Josh Fryar. Fryar started at right tackle against Indiana when Dawand Jones had to miss the game.
