Ohio State signs high upside tackle prospect Miles Walker

Ohio State hasn’t often ventured into Connecticut for football talent, but the Buckeyes found themselves doing just that this cycle in their pursuit of Brunswick School standout Miles Walker. The four-star offensive tackle prospect is officially a Buckeye, signing his letter of intent on Wednesday morning.

Walker was a bit late onto the radar but he represents the first truly hand-picked prospect by first year offensive line coach Justin Frye as the other linemen in this class were Ohio prospects who were already offered. Frye really pushed for Walker over the summer and promptly landed a commitment not long after his June official visit.

Outlook:

Walker is a late bloomer physically, which is a bit reminiscent of the recruitment of current Buckeye tackle Zen Michalski. Walker hit a growth spurt early in high school and has spent the last couple of years filling out his frame. Walker has tremendous lateral quickness and length, the type of physical tools that could make him a formidable left tackle. While the strength and mass are still being built up, he is a very willing run blocker who finishes plays and plays with good leg drive.

Walker reminds me a little bit of former Ohio State right tackle Darryl Baldwin, but has more long term upside and won’t be getting bounced around between defensive and offensive line as Baldwin was with the Buckeyes. It will likely take a year or two to get into the mix, but Walker has the talent to be a multi-year starter in Columbus.
