Ben Christman Off To The Portal

Akron (Ohio) offensive lineman Ben Christman has entered the NCAA Transfer portal and will end his Ohio State career after just two seasons. The 6-foot-6, 310-pounder will still have three years of eligibility left when he finds his next home after two years at Ohio State.

Christman was a four-star recruit coming out of high school as a member of the class of 2021 and after redshirting his first season, played in one just one game this past season, Ohio State’s game against Indiana where he tallied nine total snaps.

Offensive line recruiting is always a point of emphasis for the Buckeyes and the past several years have been difficult as Ohio State has been looking for the next wave of players to replace the current members of the line. Christman always was part of those plans but after two years of waiting in the wings, the big lineman has decided to find somewhere else to finish out his college career and get on the field.

Offensive line this spring was a riddle for the Buckeyes as the team looks to replace three starters from last year’s team and there was plenty of opportunity to be had, but even with that opportunity, there were a few players that just couldn’t crash through the ceiling to get into the mix.

The outgoing Ohio State lineman had more than two dozen offers from many top national programs and while it would appear to make a lot of sense to just stay in-state and look towards the MAC, it will be interesting to see if many of the schools that had offered the first time around will be looking to get involved again as there is always a need for offensive linemen.

Christman joins Caleb Burton and Jake Seibert in Buckeyes to enter the portal from the 2022 team.

We will continue to track the latest with Ohio State in the transfer portal as the deadline to enter the portal rapidly approaches.
