Ohio State Tight End Cade Stover Announces Return For Senior Season

Ohio State fourth-year junior tight end Cade Stover announced on Monday that he intends to return to OSU for his fifth and final season.

Stover finished third on the team this past season with 36 receptions. His 406 yards receiving were fourth, as were his five touchdown catches.

Stover came to Ohio State as a linebacker, but ended up at defensive end before his true freshman season was over. In 2020, he moved to tight end, which is also where he spent the 2021 season. He did, however, move back to linebacker for the Rose Bowl, leaving many to think that his days on offense were over.

Instead, Stover was back on offense during the offseason, and he ended up posting the most receptions for a Buckeye tight end since Rickey Dudley’s 37 catches in 1995.

Stover’s return is huge for Ohio State because they have nobody proven beyond him for next year. They have several options, but those options have not been nearly as tested as Stover.

With his return, whoever ends up starting at quarterback for the Buckeyes next year will also have another consistent passing weapon to rely upon.

Several other Buckeyes are still waiting to announce their respective NFL decisions, including quarterback CJ Stroud, left tackle Paris Johnson, and middle linebacker Tommy Eichenberg.
