COLUMBUS — Ohio State senior right tackle Dawand Jones has announced his intention to leave OSU for the 2023 NFL Draft.
Jones, a true senior, had a COVID year available if he wanted, but instead chose to begin the next chapter of his football life.
Jones was a two-year starter at right tackle for the Buckeyes, earning Second-Team All-Big Ten honors from the media each of those years. The Big Ten coaches voted him to the third team each year.
A three-star prospect out of Indiana, Jones was a late signee for the Buckeyes in the 2019 class. He then earned a spot on special teams as a weapon as a kick blocker. There was a thought that he would burn his redshirt just because of that, but he also quickly found himself playing in the two-deep at tackle.
Jones is going to be one of the more interesting offensive line prospects to watch in this year’s draft. At 6-foot-8 and 360 pounds, he will certainly grab everyone’s attention. The NFL Combine later this winter could possibly move him into the first round based on some projections.
Jones is now the third member of the 2022 Ohio State offensive line to announce his decision to leave for the NFL. Left tackle Paris Johnson and center Luke Wypler have already announced their respective departures.
The NFL Draft will be held from April 27-29.
