Former Louisiana-Monroe left tackle Victor Cutler announced his transfer to Ohio State on Wednesday. Cutler started every game at left tackle this past season for the Warhawks. He will have two years of eligibility remaining.
The Buckeyes are losing three starters on the offensive line from this past season, so depth and starting jobs are very much a priority. Left tackle Paris Johnson, right tackle Dawand Jones, and center Luke Wypler have all left for the NFL with eligibility still remaining.
Funnily enough, Cutler (6-3 302) has started games at center, left tackle, and right tackle in his career, but with that kind of resume, it’s pretty certain he could line up at either guard spot if needed as well.
Cutler redshirted as a true freshman in 2019, but appeared in nine games in 2020 — starting twice at right guard. In 2021 he played in eight games, starting the first four games at center, then two at right tackle and one at left tackle.
What his role will be for the Buckeyes in 2023 isn’t yet known, which could be considered one of his strengths because the Buckeyes themselves don’t know what their own offensive line will look like at this point, so versatility is a must.
Regardless of where Cutler ends up, he has already improved the experienced depth of the offensive line. A starting job is probably too much to expect next year for Cutler, but depth is going to be more important than ever given the unproven starters the Buckeye will be turning to in 2023.
