Ohio’s class of 2025 is already starting to produce some big-time prospects and the Buckeyes have responded in kind by putting out a handful of offers to in-state rising juniors. That continued on Friday with the Buckeyes offering one of the most intriguing offensive line prospects in Ohio in Toledo Whitmer tackle Carter Lowe.
At 6-foot-5, 290-pounds with plus athleticism, Lowe has a chance to be one of the most highly recruited offensive tackle prospects in the Midwest, if not the nation, in the 2025 class.
But for Lowe, the development is just beginning and he knows that.
“I’m very blessed and honored to receive this opportunity,” Lowe told Buckeye Huddle.com shortly after receiving the offer. “I just started playing this game and now I was just offered by THE Ohio State.”
Lowe has only been playing football for two years, breaking out this season as a sophomore after picking up the game as a high school freshman. The growth in such a short period of time has been staggering for someone who admittedly had very little idea what he was doing when he first started playing.
“Just the actual sense of the game,” Lowe said on the biggest challenge of learning to play football. “I remember the first day of practice. My brother told me to go to practice and tell them I played o-line. At the time I didn’t even know what o-line was.”
But he knows now, and college football coaches are finding out that he’s pretty good at this o-line thing. Lowe is closing in on double digit offers, adding Cincinnati and Ohio State over the past week.
Lowe didn’t just emerge on the Ohio State radar this winter, however. A strong camp performance last June put him very much on the watch list of the Ohio State brain trust this fall. While communication between prospects and coaches can really take off on September 1st, Lowe was able to get a head start building a relationship with Ohio State offensive line coach Justin Frye by virtue of his camp stop over the summer.
“I loved his coaching style and appreciated his tips he gave me while doing 1-on-1’s,” Lowe recalled.
Lowe joins Findlay’s Ryan Montgomery as Northwest Ohio 2025 prospects who have picked up an early offer from the Buckeyes and is already the fifth Ohioan in the class to land an Ohio State offer.
