The Buckeyes now have three defensive commitments in their 2024 recruiting class as New Jersey safety Jaylen McClain announced his verbal commitment to Ohio State today.
McClain (6-0 185)attends Seton Hall Prep in West Orange where he is ranked the No. 22 safety in the nation per the 247Sports Composite, and the No. 243 player overall. He is the No. 7 safety in the class per On3, and the top player overall in the state of New Jersey.
As a junior last season, he posted 83 tackles and an interception. The year before as a sophomore, he was credited with 71 tackles and an interception.
Ohio State hosted McClain for an official visit beginning on June 9. The week before, he took an official visit to USC.
McClain also held offers from Oregon, Penn State, Georgia, LSU, Miami, Michigan, Stanford, Texas A&M, Tennessee, and plenty of others.
The Buckeyes are looking for versatility in their defensive backs, and McClain could end up just about anywhere in the secondary. He has played every defensive back spot for Seton Hall Prep, which could make him an ideal nickel candidate for the Buckeyes.
McClain now joins linebackers Garrett Stover and Payton Pierce on the defensive side of the ball in the 2024 class for Ohio State, but more will be coming soon.
Stay tuned to Buckeye Huddle as we will have more on this commitment.
