Another day and another huge addition to the Ohio State program. On the heels of a five-star cornerback commitment and a massive transfer portal addition, the Buckeyes have added super defensive end recruit Zahir Mathis to their 2025 recruiting class.
The 6-foot-6, 230-pound prospect out of Philadelphia (PA) Imhotep Charter chose Ohio State over Florida State, Texas, Tennessee, South Carolina and many others to give the Buckeyes their first defensive line commit in the 2025 recruiting class but already their fourth defensive player out of six commitments.
The early pledge of Mathis should come as a big relief to many as the Buckeyes will need to replenish its defensive line room via the 2025 class, particularly at defensive end where Ohio State needs more pass rushers.
Mathis has been recruited by Ohio State and specifically defensive line coach Larry Johnson since his freshman year at Imhotep when he played alongside former five-star Enai White who ultimately signed with Texas A&M over Ohio State.
White is a long and athletic edge rusher who has blossomed physically over the past two years, putting on more than 20-pounds and helping Imhotep to a state championship in 2023.
