According to multiple reports, Michigan head football coach Jim Harbaugh is leaving the program to take the head coaching position with the NFL’s Los Angeles Chargers.
Harbaugh met with Chargers leadership today for the second consecutive day and terms have been finalized on a contract. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Harbaugh is getting a five-year deal with the Chargers.
It is unclear how many, if any, Michigan assistants will go to Los Angeles with Harbaugh as the NCAA continues its multiple investigations into the program including recruiting violations during the COVID-19 year and the latest sign-stealing allegations.
Harbaugh also interviewed with the Atlanta Falcons but a second interview with the Falcons was canceled as the Chargers emerged as the favorite.
University of Michigan football players will now have a 30-day window to enter the transfer portal as the Wolverines will work quickly to fill the head coaching position.
