Class of 2026 Greensboro (NC) Grimsley tight end prospect D.J. Howerton is starting to see a major increase in recruiting interest this off-season. At 6-foot-6, 220-pounds, and with a basketball background, Howerton has the size and athleticism that schools are looking for to be a true all-around tight end.
Howerton made an unofficial visit over the weekend to Ohio State, his first time in Columbus.
“I wanted to see what Buckeye Nation was all about,” Howerton told BuckeyeHuddle.com. “My visit went great. I wanted to check out the practice and see how the team worked. They exceeded my expectations with everything.”
Ohio State tight ends coach Keenan Bailey has been building a relationship with Howerton. Bailey stopped by Grimsley during the winter and spent plenty of time with the athletic pass catcher on his visit.
“I mostly talked with coach Kee,” Howerton started. “He gave me a lot of feedback on things that I can improve on in the future. I love his energy and the relationships he has with his players.”
Howerton has made trips to Alabama, Penn State, and Virginia Tech as well this off-season and says he plans to return to Ohio State in the future for another visit.
