While it may be a couple of years before a class of 2026 quarterback would set foot on campus as part of an Ohio State team, the Buckeyes have been busy handing offers out to some of the nation’s signal callers of the class.
Today was no different as Cartersville (Ga.) quarterback Brodie McWhorter made a visit to Ohio State to take in a practice and left with an offer.
The 6-foot-2, 190-pouner is closing in on 20 offers already and has a slew of the major players including Georgia, Florida, Florida State and now Ohio State.
There always is a hope that a visit will produce an offer, but nothing is for certain. So what was it like when Ryan Day and the Buckeyes extended the offer to be Ohio State’s class of 2026 quarterback commit?
“I was shocked and truly blessed to receive the offer because I’ve watched the history of quarterbacks with Ohio State,” McWhorter told BuckeyeHuddle.com. “It always has been one of my top schools throughout the whole process.”
It is safe to say that McWhorter will pick up more offers as time goes on and has plenty of time to get to a decision.
Brodie is the cousin to class of 2026 offensive lineman Bear McWhorter, who is committed to Arkansas after picking up more than two-dozen offers of his own.
This certainly is not the first time that Ohio State has looked to the state of Georgia for a quarterback, with Justin Fields being the last, even though he came to Ohio State by way of the portal and not directly out of high school.
The goal for the Buckeyes now will be to get McWhorter and several of the other recently offered quarterbacks back on campus for the upcoming camp season to put these players through the paces of workouts and determine who may be the next quarterback in line for the Buckeyes.
Ohio State already has its class of 2025 quarterback in the fold with Bellfontaine (Ohio) quarterback Tavien St. Clair committed and not appearing to show any signs of wavering. The class of 2026 quarterback race will be unique as it will be the first quarterback that new offensive coordinator Chip Kelly handpicks, inheriting St. Clair and the current Ohio State quarterback room.
