Ohio State Receiver Kyion Grayes Entering Transfer Portal

Ohio State redshirt sophomore wide receiver Kyion Grayes is entering the transfer portal. The news was first reported by Matt Zenitz.

Grayes missed the 2023 season due to injury and caught just one pass for two yards as a true freshman in 2022. He played in two games that season.

Originally from Arizona, it would not be a surprise to see Grayes head back in that direction where he could find a better path to playing time.

Grayes was a four-star prospect and Top 100 recruit for the Buckeyes. He was ranked the No. 88 player in the nation per the 247Sports Composite and the No. 14 receiver overall. He had a knack for getting open downfield and making big plays for his quarterbacks.

Unfortunately, Grayes also dealt with injuries as a senior at Chandler High School. It limited him to 21 catches for 388 yards and four touchdowns. As a junior, however, he averaged nearly 20 yards per catch, scoring 10 times.

The Buckeyes are not overly deep at receiver, which hasn’t been helped by the fact that Grayes is not the only receiver in OSU’s 2022 class to have transferred. Still, Grayes was on the outside looking in of being in Ohio State’s top six receivers. Kaleb Brown and Caleb Burton transferred out last year.

Ohio State will add two receivers in June when true freshmen Mylan Graham and Damarion Witten arrive. Graham is a five-star prospect out of Indiana who will likely play the same receiver position (Z/H) as Grayes. Witten is likely to eventually grow into a tight end, but will start out at receiver according to head coach Ryan Day.
