Jake Diebler’s Buckeyes have made another big pick-up in the transfer portal and have landed former Duke Blue Devil Sean Stewart. The 6-foot-9, 230-pound former five-star recently made a visit to Ohio State and decided to make a home in Columbus.
Stewart saw very limited action in 2023-24 despite playing in 33 games, just seeing 8.4 minutes per game. He averaged just shy of three points per game along with 3.2 rebounds. The former Blue Devil did record double-figure scoring in two games, 16 points against LaSalle (season high) and 12 points against NC State.
Duke saw nine players leave the program, seven by way of the portal, and that has been to Ohio State’s gain in landing Stewart.
The Buckeyes were in desperate need of size after the departures of players like Zed Key and Felix Okpara.
Stewart is no stranger to Ohio State, taking an official visit to Ohio State prior to committing to Duke. The Buckeyes get a second chance now but with a new head coach at the helm with Chris Holtmann departing the program and taking over at DePaul after being relieved of his coaching duties.
The Buckeyes are hopeful that Stewart will not only give the team a ferocious rebounder but also someone who can finish in the paint. With what promises to be a new-look roster in 2024-25, there are questions as to where Ohio State’s scoring is going to come from with many of the top scorers leaving the program either by way of transfer or graduation.
Stewart was part of the United States Under-17 team that brought home gold at the 2022 FIBA World Cup. Stewart averaged seven points per game during the tournament along with seven rebounds per game.
The Buckeyes have also added Meechie Johnson and Micah Parrish along with Bradshaw and Stewart.
