MIAMI, Fla. — Ohio State continues to find itself among the top schools for several outstanding running backs in the class of 2025. Plantation (FL) American Heritage star Byron Louis is one of the longest-standing relationships the Buckeyes have in that group.
Louis is currently in the process of figuring out what his visit schedule is going to look like over the next few months.
“First I’m going to set some spring (unofficial visit) dates,” Louis told BuckeyeHuddle.com on Sunday. “I’m just trying to figure out which schools I want to go to and then I’m also trying to figure out official visits.”
“I already have the 23rd (of March), I’ll be at Florida State and the 30th, I’ll be at Miami,” he added.
Ohio State could be in line for multiple visits over the next several months with an official in the works and other trips being discussed.
“I know for sure that as far as a game, I want to see them play Michigan,” he said. “As far as an official, they’re one of my top schools so it’s just down to scheduling that. In the spring, you might see me get up there for a day or two, just depends on how my schedule is looking.”
Louis was last on campus for the Buckeyes’ win over Michigan State, one of the team’s best performances of the season. After seeing a day game previously, a night game gave Louis a similar feel about the passion for the football team in Columbus.
“The Buckeyes, the tradition just stays the same,” he said. “They put in the time and effort and they work. The energy and the atmosphere stayed the same throughout the whole day. It’s just Buckeyes, Buckeyes, Buckeyes, and it’s just great to see all of the people supporting them.”
“I thought the gray jerseys were amazing,” he added. “Honestly, my favorite is the all black, but the grays were nice.”
While Louis has had several chances to see what Ohio State is all about, he’s also getting some key insight from friends like second-year receivers Carnell Tate and Brandon Inniss who are currently living it out.
“All that they’re telling me is that coming up there, I’d have to be ready to work,” he said. “But also, with Brandon coming from my high school, it’s American Heritage on steroids. Just everything that Heritage has prepared him for, it just carries on to the next level.”
Relationships within the program are the biggest driving force for the Buckeyes in this recruitment. From current players, to his relationship with running backs coach Tony Alford.
“The relationship is great (with Alford), I talk to him every day,” Louis explained. “He checks on me, I check on him. He’s honestly one of my favorite coaches.”
