The pipeline from Cleveland (Ohio) Glenville High School to Ohio State is back up and running. Four-star linebacker Arvell Reese signed his letter of intent with the Buckeyes on Wednesday as the lone linebacker prospect in the 2023 class to this point.
The Glenville tradition over the years was to wait until late in the process, usually at an All-American game, to make the college announcement but Reese took a much more low key path to Columbus, committing in early August before his senior season kicked off. Reese then led Glenville to the OHSAA Division III state championship, forcing two key turnovers in the win in early December.
Outlook:
Reese is one of the more under-appreciated players in this class for Ohio State. He has tremendous size at over 6-foot-3, and 220-pounds and brings a throwback type of physical element to the position. But he’s more than just a bruiser, Reese gets sideline-to-sideline very well and also can make plays when he drops back into coverage.
It will be interesting to see where Reese’s body takes him. You could argue that he might end up outgrowing linebacker and end up being an edge in Columbus, but if he’s able to keep his speed after adding a little bit of weight to his frame, you’re looking at a prototype new age MIKE linebacker who can play in all situations.
