Super 2026 QB Will Griffin talks Chip Kelly hire, appeal of Ohio State

With its class of 2025 quarterback already locked in, Ohio State’s quarterback recruiting focus at the moment is solely on the 2026 class where the Buckeyes have a few intriguing options.

Tampa (Fla.) Jesuit star Will Griffin is one of the top options, earning an offer last summer after an impressive one-day camp performance. Griffin then returned in the fall and is looking to get back for a third time this off-season.

“I plan to be up there soon,” Griffin told BuckeyeHuddle.com recently. “If not this spring, definitely this summer.”

The first impression Ohio State left on Griffin during last summer’s camp visit has kept the Buckeyes in the picture for the four-star prospect.

“I felt like I was surrounded by a great group of coaches,” Griffin recalled. “From coach Day to coach Dennis to coach Fitch. They all just made me feel great. I came a long way to get there and it was definitely worth my time.”

Since that time, the Buckeyes have undergone some changes to the offensive staff, most notably the hiring of Chip Kelly as offensive coordinator.

“I think it’s a great opportunity for Ohio State to take in a guy like him,” Griffin said of Kelly. “He’s been all over the place, he knows ball. I’m excited to meet him.”

The Kelly Factor combined with Ohio State’s track record of quarterback success under Ryan Day makes the Buckeyes an intriguing option for high-level prospects like Griffin.

“We all know they’ve had tremendous success at the quarterback position,” he said. “From Dwayne Haskins to Justin Fields, to Stroud who just won Rookie of the Year. So they definitely know what they’re doing when it comes to quarterback development, so that’s something that I really like (about Ohio State).”

Ohio State’s recent run has put the Buckeyes in that upper echelon of schools when it comes to developing quarterbacks, the type of program that every top tier quarterback has to at least take a look at.

“One-Hundred percent,” he said. “You think of the top programs in the country that develop quarterbacks, Ohio State is definitely going to be one of them.”
