Ohio State Running Back Chip Trayanum Entering Transfer Portal

Ohio State senior running back Chip Trayanum has entered the transfer portal.

Trayanum finished second on the Buckeyes with 373 yards rushing this season. He scored three touchdowns this year, with the most memorable of those coming in the 17-14 win at Notre Dame in September. Trayanum’s 1-yard plunge with one second on the clock gave the Buckeyes the victory over the Irish.

Trayanum transferred to Ohio State from Arizona State two years ago, but did so in order to play linebacker. That experiment lasted for much of the season last year, but injuries to the Buckeye running backs forced Trayanum back to the offensive side of the ball.

In his most significant action last season, he carried the ball 14 times for 83 yards against Michigan. The 83 yards were the most in a single game in his time as a Buckeye.

Trayanum is originally from Akron, Ohio, but spent two seasons in the backfield at Arizona State. He did not walk on Senior Day at Ohio State, leading many to expect him back with the Buckeyes next year. He still has one season of eligibility remaining because of the COVID year in 2020 as a freshman.

Trayanum should be able to garner plenty of interest in the portal, though he is likely looking for a more sizable role than the one he saw presented for him at Ohio State in 2024.

This departure could lend some credence to the speculation that OSU’s leading rusher, junior TreVeyon Henderson, is leaning towards returning to Ohio State for his senior season.

The Buckeye running back room has now lost Trayanum and redshirt sophomore Evan Pryor to the portal, while fourth-year junior Miyan Williams announced earlier this week that he would be entering the 2024 NFL Draft.
