Ohio State starting punter Jesse Mirco has entered the transfer portal. The news was first reported by On3.com.
Mirco is one day removed from punting the ball a career-high eight times for a career-best 386 yards in the 2023 Cotton Bowl Classic. The Buckeyes lost the game to Missouri 14-3, but Mirco was one of Ohio State’s most-effective weapons.
Mirco, a signee from ProKick Australia, is a three-year starter for the Buckeyes and he has 129 of the Buckeyes’ 130 punts over that span.
The news of Mirco’s transfer is a surprise given his status as an entrenched starter, but he now joins quarterback Kyle McCord and wide receiver Julian Fleming as three Buckeye starters who have entered the portal this season.
Behind Mirco this year was true freshman Joe McGuire, who is also from Australia.
McGuire is also an accomplished cricket player. He shined last February with a hat trick in his final three deliveries for the Heatherhill Cricket Club, finishing with five wickets for just 10 runs.
Ohio State fourth-year junior defensive tackle Jaden McKenzie also entered the portal on Saturday.
