Buckeyes Add Former Bama Lineman Via Portal

The portal has been active for the Buckeyes over the past 48 hours, first landing a quarterback and now a big offensive lineman to protect him with the addition of former Alabama lineman Seth McLaughlin.

The new Ohio State commitment went to social media on Saturday morning to announce his intentions to sign with the Buckeyes and have one year to. play one year as a 5th-year senior.

McLaughlin played center at Alabama, but it is unknown at this point if he is coming into Ohio State to play center or guard, as the Buckeyes offensive line is still in flux as we are awaiting a decision from guard Donovan Jackson and his NFL intentions. It was announced on Friday that Matt Jones is off to the NFL, leaving at least one guard position open.

The 6-foot-4, 305-pounder has 25 starts under his belt at center with the Crimson Tide program over the course of his career but his final start will not be remembered as one of his best as there were snapping issues for Bama against Michigan in the Rose Bowl, a College Football Playoff semifinal game.

A low snap on the final offensive play of the game for Alabama in overtime led to a hurried and ill-advised decision by Jalen Milroe to run up the middle and end the game, sending the hated Wolverines to the championship game and ending the Alabama season.

Now McLaughlin will have a chance to atone for that in some measure as the Buckeyes and Wolverines play annually.

McLaughlin played his high school football at a program familiar to Ohio State fans, Buford high school in suburban Atlanta. That is the same school that produced former Ohio State center Harry Miller and recent Ohio State signee Eddrick Houston among others.

This is Ohio State’s third portal addition with quarterback Will Howard (Kansas State) and tight end Will Kacmarek (Ohio) already giving their pledges.

We will have more on this breaking news, keep it locked in here to BuckeyeHuddle for all the latest.
